Copy. Hotkey. Listen.
No app to switch to, no document to open. It works anywhere you can copy text.
Copy anywhere
Browser, PDF, email, ChatGPT, docs — Sorrel reads your clipboard only when you ask.
One global hotkey
Press ⌥⌘V from any app. Sorrel opens, cleans the text, and starts playback.
Your Mac's voice
Uses your selected System Voice — natural, on-device, and no subscription.
Skips the noise
Strips markdown, links, code fences, citations and footnotes before a word is spoken.
Local first. Cloud only if you choose it.
No analytics, no tracking, no account. Everything happens on your Mac unless you opt into a cloud voice.
- Copy — you copy text, or paste it into Sorrel.
- Clean — local rules strip the noise patterns you enabled.
- Speak — your Mac's System Voice generates the audio on-device.
- Stays put — optional history and audio cache never leave your Mac.
Your Mac's voice — not a private Siri API.
Sorrel uses macOS system speech. If you choose a Siri voice in System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content and macOS makes it available to system speech, Sorrel follows that setting. It never uses a private Apple API — just the voices your Mac already offers.
Good questions.
Does Sorrel monitor my clipboard?
No. It reads the clipboard only when you press the hotkey, paste, or invoke a command — never in the background.
Does my text leave my Mac?
Not for System Voice playback — everything stays on-device. Only if you opt into a cloud voice does the filtered text get sent to that provider over HTTPS, using your own key.
Do I need an API key?
No. API keys are only for the optional advanced cloud voices. The built-in System Voices need nothing.
What does it cost?
Free for 14 days, then $9.99 once — a one-time purchase, no subscription, yours forever on every Mac you own.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Sorrel is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens cleanly.
